The Moon and the Mustard Seed

A long time ago, the Moon was round and full every single night, and never once changed shape.

One evening, a farmer scattered a handful of mustard seeds into the sky, hoping they would grow into stars. The seeds stuck to the Moon instead, covering it bit by bit.

Each night, the Moon brushed a little more of the mustard dust away, growing brighter and rounder again — and that, the story goes, is why the Moon seems to grow smaller and then fuller, over and over, forever.
